BIOGRAPHY

 

Moldavian Bass Roman Ialcic had a great success performing Tomsky in Grange Park Opera's critically acclaimed production of Pique Dame last summer.

The 2011/12 season had him performing Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia for Scottish Opera and Dvorak's Stabat Mater in Madrid. Highlights of the previous season included Kaspar from Der Frieschutz in Toulon and Saint Etienne, Vaarlam in Boris Godunov at the Städtischen Bühnen Münster, and the bass soloist in the Verdi Requiem in Jerez.

Mr Ialcic won a government scholarship to study at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich with Nikolaus Hillebrand and has been the recipient of many prizes including Prize winner in National Starcea Opera Competition, Moldova and a finalist in Placido Domingo's Operalia competition in 2006. His teachers have included basso Kurt Moll.

Future engagements include: Covers of Fafner in Das Rheingold and Hunding in Die Walküre for Seattle Opera's Ring Cycle the coming summer. He debuts at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow next season in Tsar's Bride and returns to the Grange Park Festival in 2015.
